Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

I've become a confirmed digital scrapbooker... I love the ability to manipulate the scale and color of papers and elements so quickly and easily. Scale especially as I so often found that I had to work with the scale of the element or sticker rather than being able to let myself go artistically!

This is such a great giveaway! My favorite creative technique lately is scrapbooking but on a very small scale. i just started exploring some teaching at a local moms group, and they liked it, which has motivated me even more to get people to share their stories. A lot of my friends are afraid to scrapbook, and i love showing them how to get their stories out. Thanks for the opportunity.

Been a bit of a doodle bug lately. It seems I've been adding it on everything I do!

I Love Kelly Rae's new book. I have 5 sisters and 15 neices as well as 2 daughters. I looked at the front cover and tried to imagine which of the girls in my life their incredible expressions reminded me on them. On a creative side, I have just finished a display of 125 years of our school's photos, so displaying photos and memorabilia has been my life. Next creative stop will be to complete my parents heritage albums complete with their life stories. Love your blog by the way.

My favorite technique is to stop planning and go with it. I waste too much time trying to make things perfect instead of just being creative and enjoying the process. And when I just go with it I am usually pleasantly surprised with the results.

My current favorite technique is using an old typewriter to add text to my pages. I love the way it looks and love the way it complements the old photos i've been scrapping.
Your giveaways are always great.

My creative release is definitely scrapbooking. I love so many things about this hobby (documenting stories, showcasing photos, playing with product) but I also love how I can start and often finish a layout in a couple of hours or less. A lot of satisfaction in that!

Cool giveaway! Scrapbooking and card making are my all time favorite BUT, I have been finding myself drawn to the art of sewing and fabric made anything! Especially if I can hand stitch it. Not a fan of fighting with my sewing machine. :)

Ali!
I hope to see you in Coburg this weekend:)
My current favorite creative technique would definately be on mini canvases. Everything I do is mixed media... from paint, to chalks, to distressing ink, embellishments, ribbon, junk, antiques, etc.
I LOVE it!
Make today great!

Scrapbooking is my creativity right now. I'm slowly getting into card making. I've been scrapbooking for years now (on and off) but now I'm really into it! Just can't get enough!!

They look great books.
At the moment I'm really excited by fabric especially fabric journals, though haven't had time to dabble yet.
My favourite technique (if you can call it that) is using chipboard with anything - ink, paint, embossed...

These books sound great - can't wait to check them out!
I'm finding myself drawn a lot more stamping these days. Stamping on paper flowers, stamping over patterned paper, stitching around a stamped image, using acrylic paints with my stamps, etc, etc, etc ...

Hey Ali, nice giveaway!
For some reason, my fave technique these days is something really simple: sanding. I just am so drawn still to the sanded edges of some pics, and the texture it gives. It couldn't any be quicker and easier too.

I have been layering ink colors on my stamps, love the added dimension, especially green ink with some brown around the edges.

My favorite creative technique is still scrapbooking but my "canvas" has changed a bit. I am much more into minibooks, especially ones about me.

My favorite technique these days is playing around with Tim Holtz's alcohol inks...using them the "normal" way, trying some resist with them, using them on glossy paper, ghost shapes, & sheers ect.
Thanks for the chance at a giveaway :)
