Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

I am really getting more into my photography and trying some creative things in Photoshop. Also, you have inspired to focus on telling the story behing the scrapbook page more than I was. I am really enjoying it too.

Wow. This book looks awesome. I'm just finishing up a mini book / journal of our vacation to Portland and Seattle. I usually do traditional scrapbook pages, but this one I did very differently - worked on it a lot while actually on vacation with more journaling, and adding bits and pieces of this and that picked up a long the way. I was very inspired by the journal you did of your Amsterdam trip. Bringing along just a few tools and stamps was also much more liberating than being overwhelmed by all the choices in my studio.

My favorite creative technique is taking time out to be creative (Period). Any little moment that I can be doing creative art of any sort just makes my heart soar. Writing, Scrapbooking, Photography, Painting, Collage. Its hard to pick one in particular because regardless of which one I'm doing I feel alive. Its like saying what is your favorite sweet! How can I choose!

I actually just picked up True Vision last week and have been loving it so far. It's so inspiring! I just love all the great ideas in it. I'll definitely have to check out the other two. I also picked up The Art of Personal Imagery too, which is also really good.
My favorite technique lately has been for my art journal pages. I water down some acrylic paint and do light color washes over a finished page or collage. I like how the paint ties in all the page elements to each other and gives everything a more uniform look.

I love to make a scrapbook page in an 8 1/2 mat and then frame it. They look great on the walls and you can just swap out the layout and stick it in an album. I like to put the rub-on's on the glass looks nice.

I love to handstitch with embroidery threads on my LOs at the moment, but especially on my mini books. Love it. A touch of beading hanging from the bindings too.
Thanks for the chance of this giveaway Ali.

I'm working on a couple of theme books right now and I'm excited to finally use some acrylic pages. I think it's so neat to be able to get a sneak peek at what's to come inside.

I just got a new camera so my new favourite thing is to take mini sketchbooks and paste photos in them and then repaint them with acrylic paint. I LOVE acrylic paint!

Right now it seems to be collage - creating layered paper creations to frame for my children's bedrooms. Mainly out of white paper with a 'feature' thing cut out of patterned paper. Making it up as I go along of course :)

My latest creative technique has been looking around at objects in my home that do not make me happy in any way and asking myself what I can change about them to make me love them again. I use whatever supplies I have on hand to transfer my love of scrapbooking to ordinary objects I may have gotten rid of.
