Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My favorite technique right now is twisting wire and beads into unusual jewelry and adding other fun objects, small bottles, pebbles, washers, rings, anything that will allow me to twist wire around it! I am in love with all mixed media and just wish I had enough time to do everything I want! My job sure does get in the way of my fun!!!
Thanks
Sherry

Hi Ali,
I started out with making cards and have transitioned into scrapbooking over the past year. To this day my favorite technique is crayon resist but I have yet to use it on a scrapbook layout.
Congrats to you and your sister!
Deb :-)

taking pictures!! It is my absolute favorite, I love the way you can just capture a moment, a story, a personality, a feeling, a fairytale and you name it in a picture- I am a total writer, but words pale in comparison to the perfect picture (a picture is worth 1,000 words) the catch, I have the hardest time deciding weather to keep them in all the glorious color that life has to offer, or in black and white or even sepia. I scrapbook as a way to display those pictures!

What happens in and around my camera is my newest creative technique.
I don't have photo(anything) software--and until last year (!!!) shot with regular film, so I'm being very resourceful with what images I create in the camera and what's going on around me. Why do I do it all? So it translates to the scrapbooking page and I tell my story + my childrens' stories.

My favorite technique right now is inking the edges of things. Whether is memorabilia, photos or text boxes, it is amazing how much a little ink can add to a layout!

My focus lately has been on my journaling (on scrapbook pages). I realised that other than the photo it is the only thing that really matters.

My current favorite? Well, I just got a new digital SLR and Photoshop so I've been totally playing around with that...in fact, it's time to step away from the PC...and do laundry...what IS that thing called laundry anyway??

I love to combine digital elements such as overlays and journalling blocks on my paper LO's. I am also enjoying cutting elements with my silhouette. I use stamp pads to colour them before adding to a LO.

Making mini books using my cell phone photos (not the best quality, but capturing life at the moment) are instant gratification!
Love the art journal books you've mentioned!

I am in the gathering/hoarding stage right now and for the first time have bought some Halloween themed paper and stickers with the intent of creating mini albums of grandsons. Also recently (finally!) purchased a Zutter Bind-It-All after seeing a live demo. It was much better than peering at UTube demos!

After taking Emily Falconbridge's painting class online, I love to experiment with layering papers, tissue paper, paint and other goodies with gel medium. Love the feel of a piece that's layered together randomly...feels so organic.

I am really loving drawing or doodling on my pictures, making frames for them using cardboard and sewing on my projects. Tomorrow it may be something completely different!
My sister and I had our oldest kids 4 days apart. It was wonderful...except we couldn't help each other with the newborns because we were both in the same boat!

I am loving playing with alcohol inks and acrylic paint. I am also trying to look at all of my supplies with new eyes and challenge myself to use them in new ways. Those books look awesome! I'm especially intrigued by the one with paint techniques.
