Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

I guess my superpower is uniting family & friends through Shutterfly share sites, get-togethers, sending birthday greetings and preserving stories and photos through various means. Love that necklace, planning to check out her blog. Thanks Ali!

Hi Ali, I have a superpower of patience. I am a mom of two little ones, I have a husband, and I teach 180 teenagers Government, Economics and U.S. History every day. I would say that my patience is tested mostly by the teenagers who think of me like their mom away from home. They ask to borrow money, pencils, papers, they continually ask me to repeat myself. (sometimes I think I must be practicing to be a parrot in another life!) But my 4 yr old daughter has been testing my power pretty successfully lately. Just this morning she tried on three pairs of underwear before she settled on the blue with pink trim. Then we moved on to her pants, or should it be a skirt? Or maybe a dress would be better today??? Hahaha. That is all I can do is smile and laugh, it is my best tool in keeping my patience in check!

I am often told I have super powers in maintaining friendships. At 40 years of age I still have a handful of friends that date back to my elementary school years and we all live throughout the US.

My superpower is baking--which feeds people but also nurtures hearts that might feel afraid or broken (what chocolate cake doesn't remind us of our moms and grandmothers?).

my superpower would be my power to create calm. my co-worker has told me that i will be the bouncer in heaven one day, kindly and supportively turning people away from the pearly gates. i have had lots of training as both an elementary school teacher and a volunteer on a crisis lines and those skills come in handy when you are forced to tell people what they don't want to hear. i genuinely empathize with people and know that it hard to hear bad news so i use my power to calm the savage and unhappy soul.

Hi Ali, these necklace's are just lovely! Your question got me thinking...superhero? Lot's of great qualities maybe, but superhero qualities? I didn't think so at first but it's really all a matter of perception isn't it!
I would have to say that my superhero quality is that I really LIKE people. I find people interesting and love to hear their "stories"...their dreams, their goals, their ideals, their fears and what's important to them. I feel we all need to be heard and we all have something of value to contribute.
Thanks for asking the question and thanks too, for sharing all your beautiful thoughts and insights on design.

A superhero power, huh? Let's see. I tell my girls that I know everything that's going on with them. I think they believe me. Yes, that's my superpower.

My superpower is that I truly am the queen of hearts...I've had 3 hearts in my life, my original and two transplants. If you can survive all that you've got to be a superhero, right!

Great idea for comments! And.....LOVE the yellow yesterday. Can't bring myself to marking that message as "read."
My superpower? Every time I sing in public, I make someone cry. In a good way! I am not a very emotional person, but somehow I can make that connection with people through my music. Love that!

Reading is my super power. I read at the speed of light. However, reading is also my cryptonite. As for example, reading while preparing dinner. Many a major dinner disaster has been perpetrated b/c I was reading the book more closely than the recipe.
