Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Thank you - I was someone who needed to hear that today! I haven't taken many leaps in my life lately- but one little one I'm taking this year is to let little things go and not over-analyze everything!

Love the colors in that Feb. kit!!! And very inspirational quote from Alex.
Seems like everyday something comes up where you have to decide one way or another which "leap" to take. It makes us who we are.

my biggest and most recent leap has been being out of school and work for the first time in the last 20 years of my life. i'm busily looking for work, but have to remind myself that it's ok to be where i am right now.

Thanks so much for the quote today. It made me realize that while I have not dealt with the bigger leaps in my life (what about that new job, Kari? Remember your word for the year, results?) going ahead and submitting uncalled for ideas to my supervisor can be a leap. Maybe all the little leaps will make the big one seem frightening.

I was forced into my leap of courage on Febraury 9, 2008 when my mother passed away. I was literally two weeks away from giving birth to my first child and was completely expecting to go into motherhood with the knowledge, guidance, and experience of my own mother (my husband had even asked her to stay with us for the first week). I had to become the mother I wanted to be by relying solely on God and remembering the things that my mother had taught me. As I look back over the course of this year, I see where I was and where I have come- more confident in the decisions that I make for myself and my family. I still wish Mom was here, but I can also see how God has used this situation to make me "grow up" and be the wife and mother I am today.

A big leap for me was moving back to the UK on my own. I was born here but left when I was 8 with my parents and returned at 36. I love being here! It was really hard in the beginning, but I'm settled now and very happy.

One of the many leaps I've taken recently is adapting to so much change. We've recently moved to a new state and new town and my husband left to go out to sea as he is in the navy and I'm left to deal w/ 3 kids and all the adjusting new schools and new town and no friends yet entails. Isn't life exciting though! I'm sure it will be fun to discover new things this year. Love your blog!

My leap was choosing to take a few years off from my BELOVED teaching career to stay home with my infant son. As much as I love my job, I know I will never regret the precious time I have had getting to know my little boy. I take note of this everyday when I find myself under our dining room table, hiding from "bears."

Hello. My latest leap: listening to my baby boy's cry (who is 3 months old). I was so scared to hear him cry before, to me its sounded like I was not doing what he needed. So I spent the 3 first months of his life doing all I could to stop him from crying. It has been a week now that I started to practice the principles of Doctor Aletha Solter (The Aware baby) and it is a life changing experience. Hard- well so days very hard- but definitely worth it.

I went to 'Dialog in the Dark' - a touring show here in Atlanta that is run by blind or nearly blind people - the purpose is to educate you about their world. You spend an hour in total darkness navigating through a 'park', 'market', 'city' , 'boat ride' - very interesting but I was really nervous beforehand but glad now I did it (my husband's father was blind - taught me a lot about his world.

I am a 26 year old mother and wife. My most recent leap would be going back school for Graphic Design. Very inspiring blog today - the reminder I needed today!

My leap may seem small, but it's been big for me. I have totally jumped outside of my comfort zone and am trying to make new friends. I've moved around lots-no long lasting old friendships, and now have two small kids-no time or energy for me. But this year I decided to make it a priority to get some girlfriends! I've approached people I think I might get along with, invited women I don't know very well to get together, offered up more playdates with my kids in hopes of meeting other moms... And it's working! I feel like this leap has been worth it, despite how hard it is for an introvert like me. Yay!

Well... it must be the time in my life or something because I've recently had a few leaps. There's one coming up this weekend that I am so scared and excited about. I am going to train to be a step aerobics teacher. Not everyone thinks I can do it... but I know I CAN!
PS - hope you're feeling good these days! :)

I am thinking about trying to having another baby after a difficult second trimester miscarriage in 2008, and trustung God that whatever is right for our family will happen, when it is supposed to happen.

My biggest leap thus is far is starting to really trust God and His plan, although I'm definitely still a work in progress in this area.

We lost our Grandma a week ago Sunday...and there are other decisions that we are making right now in regards to our family that will be huge leaps as well. I can't wait to get the jumping done so the new can begin.
