Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Wow Ali...you know just what to say (or blog) at just the right time....thanks:) When my husbands job was cut a few weeks ago, I got a little nervous (to say the least), but it was my "itty bitty" leap that has helped in a "HUGE" way...I decided to try scrapping for others as a source of income and it has been a great success...with just two weeks since my decision, I now have three clients and here I sit....scrappin' away. Had always been interested, but never had the nerve or confidence in myself to do it...God sure knows how to get my attention...lol! Thanks again for the "reminder"....have a great day :)

I think my most recent "leap" is going back to school after 15 years. I wanted my boys to know how important the value of education is. So far, they don't seem too impressed. But one day I hope they see education the way that I do and will strive to do their best like their mama did.

I took a couple leaps at once. I decided it was best to separate from my husband and start divorce proceedings, as well as move partway around the country to start over. New life, new home, new state, new job.
It's taken a lot of courage, but so far it's worth it.

My recent leap, was changing paths from one direct marketing company that I've been involved with for 12 years to teaching preschool, something I know I was called to do.
Thanks Ali!

When I was little I dreamed of someday being a stay-at-home mom (I was raised by a single mom who always had to work) I was able to make that come true after our second child was born...it was hard giving up the two income lifestyle and trusting that we could make it work. Here I am 11 years later still home and loving it.

It's odd to think that spending money is a leap of courage, but it was - spending the money this weekend on a treadmill, so that I can exercise regardless of weather or time of day, because that makes me feel so much better it's worth it.

I haven't taken any big leaps lately. Maybe this is a reminder to step outside the box a little more. A small leap I made recently was joining a gym for the first time in about 6 years - and making the commitment to join a friend in a new exercise program!

Thanks for all the info you post. It inspires me. My leap is looking for a full-time job for the first time in 18 years. It is so much harder than the last time! Being a Military wife we have moved 6 times and I've stayed home with my kids. I am hoping to get a job on post at Fort Knox. But it is SUPER hard getting a government job! Wish me luck!

Love that kit-I'll have to check out that company. My latest leap of faith has been taking on sewing costumes for my dd's ballet class. Hoping and praying I can get them all done in time!

This one made me think deeper. I'm used to taking the big leaps such as moving to a city where I don't know anyone (I've done this many times), taking on pregnancy (it just seems natural), or doing crazy adventures like white-water rafting or rock climbing.
I realized that the biggest leap I've been making is in LETTING GO. I've had to say goodbye to most of my piano students because I want to be a Mom and be here for my family more than anything. But it is still hard letting go of the relationships I've had with these students over the past several years.

My leap for the last week has been working on a financial proposal for a bank and hoping that I can get the loan I need before I go broke! It's definitely a leap of faith!

The bravest I have ever been was 12 years ago when my 9 yo daughter fell very ill. I didn't know I had that tenacity or brains to deal with all the ins and out of saving her life. But I did! Now that daughter is a senior in college about to become the best teacher a child can have. Recently, I was brave enough to start a blog. I know it sounds silly but it's not easy for a closet agoraphobic to let the world in. But I did! And so far I am still alive to talk about it!
I love what happens when I do something I thought I could never do. Oh and I ride a big fat motorcycle too. Who would have even thought I could or would ever do that?

My most recent act of courage was beginning down the road to adoption. Our daughter is out there, we just have to find her. :)

My most recent leap was just last week..and the leap has made me fly again. I forgave my mother for committing suicide when I was 9 years old. I also forgave a few others who have caused me great pain. Doing so has allowed me to move forward, and for that I am so so grateful.
