Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Giving up a large salary to gain a better work life balance. Losing the security (and treats) that the money provides to spend days (not always good) with my 4 year old felt like the right thing to do but was a massive leap in todays economic environment.

A big leap came last June when my Air Force husband and I decided it was best for him to volunteer for a remote assignment at this time in our family's life instead of doing it later. Our girls are young - nearly 5 and almost 2 - so the youngest won't really remember Daddy is gone. Now he's in FL for training and I'm here in Germany with our girls, preparing alone to move back to a metropolitan city to live with my mom for a year while he's in the desert. Living the day to day of that decision that we seemed to make so long ago has already been so hard - and we're not really into the "hard part" or the actual year of his assignment yet.
But I have hope and prayers and the love of family and the knowledge that this really was the best decision for our family, even though it means choosing to be apart. I believe that each day is a new opportunity and that as time goes by I will change and adapt to handling the situation and separation better.
Thanks for all of the inspiration and brightness you bring to the world, Ali.
Thank you!

My was being a stay at home mom. I have worked since the day my kids were born and now I am trying to do the stay at home thing. It is really strange to be home all day and be able to get to all of those things that I have always wanted to get done but never had the time to do. I have enjoyed my time with my children too.

A new director recently started at my job and today I had a meeting with her. Just me and her. I had to take a leap and discuss a highly personal but very important topic with her. I did it, was extremely proud of myself and the results are going to be totally worth it. I'm so glad that I gathered up the courage to speak up and not keep my fears inside.

I appreciate the thought for today. I recently had a sudden, unexpected and very unwanted leap. My husband passed away at the end of November. I will be checking out your friend's blog.
On a much brighter note. I hope you are doing well and I am happy for you for this new stage in your life. Babies are so wonderful.

Signing up to be a bone marrow donor. It takes so little of me to give to someone that might be dying. I hope that someday I can be a donor and be able to save a life, specially of those who are children.

My biggest leap was to take on the role of "life coach". Could I really make a difference? Could I really encourage this gal to achieve her goals? What qualifications did I have? She's encouraged me as much, if not more, that I've encouraged her.
Every day is a little leap as we put our feet on the floor.

Back in 2001 I left the comfort of all I had known my entire life with family and friends for a new career adventure. I went into the local grocery store in my new city and came back to the hotel I was staying in until I found an apartment just bawling my eyes out. Coming from a small town growing up with only one grocery store, I was so used to the clerk asking how I was, how my family was doing, and just general small talk about family, weather, etc. At the new store, the clerk rushed through my items without even cracking a smile or saying hello. I thought what kind of place have I moved to, the small things mean so much to me! But later that same week I was to meet my future best friend, husband, and father of our child which made the leap of faith all the more better! Maybe that clerk was sent my way to test me and see how strong I truly was out on my own.
Thanks Ali for letting me share...

My most recent leap of faith was jumping into a new side business when I already had a full time job, two kids and a husband to raise and a house to care for. I am doing this new endeavor for myself, for fun, for social interaction and for the extra fun money. I am hoping I will have time to keep up with it all and leave time for scrapbooking!!

For me it was last week: we received test blood test results that showed possible lead poisoning in my 16 m/o. I was was terrified. Rather than accepting it. I took the leap to have another test done. The results could have been the same or worse, so the fear and leap was huge for me. Thankfully, the second set of tests were 100% negative.

My most recent leap of courage was to start taking the time to take care of myself. I am the classic "fix everyone elses problems girl", now I am working on fixing me. I gotta say, I'm loving taking care of myself for once.
I check everyday Ali, can't wait to hear some pink baby news.

Wow. I wish I had the leaps that other posters have had. What amazing people! A recent leap for me has been in designing my own blog background, header, etc. Fiddling with HTML has always scared the daylight out of me - but I took the "leap" and I enjoy the results!

A very recent leap for me is that I put some silly post high school drama behind me and held out an olive branch to a former friend that was once a good friend. We parted on not so good terms and over the eyars I've grown to miss the friendship. Honestly, I don't even remember what the drama was all about. I hope she is able to put the past behind her as well and that we are able to rekindle our once very good friendship.

My recent leap was booking a weekend away for my self. I'm not going far, but am taking the time to do the things I love to do - painting, reading, scrapbooking. So much of my time is spent looking after my 2 children and husband, and looking after the house and everyone's schedules, that it was nice to take a deep breath and do something for myself for a change. Felt a little uncomfortable and selfish to begin with, but tomorrow is the departure day and now I just feel happy that I decided to do something for me!
