Riding with Grandpa on his horse, Lady, in the Fourth of July parade. I was 5 years old and I still remember how important I felt.

My favorite summer memory would have to be going to summer camp. Doing crafts--they were really big back then with me and still are today. Swimming in the lake, even though it was yucky Lake Erie. Campfires, with songs and skits. And all the yummy food--we even had Christmas dinner. Will never forget those--went back as a councelor and then as a nurse.

What a great prompt. not something I've thought about in years. One of my favorite was riding our bikes to the Dairy Queen that would take us through some dirt paths in a wooded area to get a Dilly Bar! The other was playing tag - home base was always the back porch at our house. there we're lots of kids in our neighborhood so the games would last for a long time.

Favorite summer childhood memory has to family gathering at backyard, spitting out water melon seeds onto the lawn after a bar-b-q. My sisters and I have always wondered if a water melon plant would spout from those seeds. LOL

Mine would have to be going to the little ice cream shop after a day on the boat at Rushford Lake in NY. We always took a nice long ride in the family station wagon after we got our ice cream and saw lots of wildlife. Wish I could have just one of those days back again. I haven't thought about this in awhile and now I am inspired to scrap it...hopefully I can make time this afternoon. Thanks!

My favorite summer memory - our annual 4th of July events. It always turned out to be a informal family reunion.

Going to the park district pool every day with my mom - true - carefree afternoons. We don't have a great pool near us so I am not able to replicate the experience with my kids - yet!

One of my favorite Summertime memories is my dad making homemade ice cream. He always insists on cranking the ice cream himself. He says the motorized makers don't work as well. I have to agree. Now as a adult he still wants to do it. If I could find a maker with a hand crank, I would get it for him!

When I was 9 our family drove 5 hours away to Galveston, TX. We spent a week camping on the beach. During the day we would swim, tour museums, and eat out. We cooked on our camp stove for dinner, and watched the stars. I woke up every morning to the sound of my dad beating sand out of his sleeping bag and the smell of the saltwater.

My favorite summer time memory is when my entire family on my mom's side of the family would go to my grandmothers and grandfathers. We would eat delicious homecooked fried chicken, fried squash and okra,(we live in the south) creamed potatoes, homemade icecream and watch videos of their recent trips. One trip was always to the mountains where my grandfather would find a bear in the park, on the side of the road... video the bear then have my grandmother videoing him acting like a bear. We kids got the biggest kick out of that! We thought he was SO brave! :)

My dad was a truck driver and used to drive from Montana to California every week. My grandparents lived in Los Angeles and I used to love riding down to LA on the truck with my dad and spending a month with my granparents in LA.

I loved when my mom would cut open a watermelon in the backyard and let us eat it right off the rind. It was such a wonderful treat. We would get juice running down our arms and have seed spitting contests. Then we would run around in the sprinklers. Heaven.
