Family vacations were some of my favorite childhood memories! I especially loved the road trips in my mom's old station wagon where we either sat in the way back facing backwards or could just lay in the back...I always thought that was so cool :)

My favorite childhood memory would have to be playing outside until dark - running around playing tag and hide and seek in the cornfields behind our house. Not a care in the world!

A great memory i was just reminded of was a block party our neighborhood had when i was in fourth grade-- it was a brick street, so the bumpity bump of the bicycle race with handlebar ribbons flapping in the wind are some of the most vivid images, and of course the green of the trees, the lemonade and hotdogs and general glee of childhood carefree fun.

I loved summer vacation as a child. Vacations always involved traveling to the beach, swimming in the ocean, collecting shells, having picnics. Now that I'm a grandparent, the kids and grandkids go with us and we all still enjoy the same things. It's wonderful.

One of my favorite things in the summer when I was a kid was playing hide and seek at night with my sisters and friends! Back when it WAS safe to do such things we had a huge empty lot for running next to our house but tons of trees and areas to hide behine by the house. Ahh but to be a kid again!

I was a competitive swimmer starting at age 7. My favorite summer memories all involve the pool. We would start with swim practice around 7am and then play all day. I loved to swim so much that I would sometimes practice again in the evening. There is something about swimming in an outdoor pool (especially when you live in MN and you only get to do it for a few months a year) that just makes it so much more FUN!

I have so many it's hard to choose one but I think the most profound memories are those of the flowers around my maternal grandparents house. There were two rose bushes in particular - one white, one red and they were a little something special in an otherwise ordinary working class home. Every time I see a rose bush in bloom now, I think of that house and my grandparents, especially my grandmother though oddly enough it was my grandfather who took care of those bushes during his life.

Every summer my mom and aunt would take my sister, cousins and I to six flags. It was a wonderful, fun, adventure for all the girls! They now take my son and his cousins every summer and he is creating great memories as well!

My favorite childhood summer memory... my family accompanied my mother to an insurance convention in Orlando. They hired the Barnam and Bailey circus to perform inside the hotel's ballroom. I was little and although the circus was great, my favorite part was at the end of the night when my sister and I grabbed one of the balloon arches from the doorway of the ballroom and ran through the hotel trailing balloons behind us. When we got to the huge glass elevator, we shoved the balloons inside and could barely fit in it ourselves. I remember riding the elevator completely surrounded by balloons. FUN!

Sitting on my dad's boat, doing nothing but reading, sitting in the sun and being with him.

Ordinary long, hot summer days followed by sitting on the sidewalk with friends, sticky ice cream or popsicles dripping down our hands and arms. For some reason, these memories are among the most vivid. Probably because ours was the house kids on the block gathered around and my dad would hand out treats to one and all. There were 5 kids in our family and we each had more than one friend over. Groups of kids laughing and chatting, our voices the only sound in the hot, humid evening. It never got better than that.
p.s. met the folks from Elle's studio at The Farm Chicks show. They were really nice!

I'm probably too late, but my favorite childhood memory is playing in the tents we made by hanging blankets over Mom's clothes lines and weighting the corners down with bricks. All the neighborhood kids spent hours in those tents. Sometimes we had 2 or 3 going at once! Oh, to be a kid again.

Oh, mine is definitely the weekly visits to the library to pick up stacks of books to devour while it was too hot outside

I can't help but think of the ice cream man when I think about summertime as a kid. Kick the can, sidewalk chalk and top it off with a Screwball. That's summer! :)

During summers, I was a pretty voracious reader. I'd go to the library and check out 20-30 books and end up reading them within a week or two. I miss having the time to read that much.

Oh I love Elles's Studio stuff. My favorite childhood summertime memory has to be coming home from a day at the beach with my family and my mom making us ice cream floats. Yum!
