Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

Totall LOVE my atg. I have both the red and the yellow, which I altered to black and pink. It goes on like a tape runner - takes a little getting used to, but I love it and when it is stuck down, that baby is stuck down!

I use the red atg. You will never go back to anything again.
It goes on like tape, straight line.

I have two or three boxes (10refills each) of Dot N Roller left... I am currently refusing to believe those will run out... but if they do.... I may go back to Scrapbook Adhesives which I have used before, but I hear great things about the ATG gun if you don't mind the size.

Try the Herma repositionable dotto. After trying lots of them it is what I've settled on for the last 5 years. It is fabulous.

I'm sad too :o( I'm now using the glue glider and am loving how easy it is to refill. I also love the E-Z runner by 3L.

I'll add to the list of my love for my red ATG. It's one of THE best scrapbook investments I have made.

I know how you feel, I miss my adhesive too. I used to buy the Duck tape runners in a 4 pack for dirt cheap in Walmart (when I visit family - NY doesn't have any). Then they disappeared, I finally found them in JoAnn's but for 3 times the price. Now I have that big Glue Glider Pro, it's OK, but I miss my old tape runner...

I switched to the red ATG gun - I resisted also, but I could not live without it! It goes on like doublesided tape. I find myself using it for Girl Scout projects and last week my 15 year old borrowed it for a poster he was making for world history. Can't say enough about how easy it is to use. I thought it would be too big, but it is light weight. The refills are very economical too. Try it!!

That's a bummer that your favorite adhesive will no longer be available :( I've been using the yellow (1/2" strip) ATG for a couple of years now, and I love it. It applies a smooth strip of tape to your project, and it holds very well. The rolls of tape last quite a while and are pretty cheap as compared to other adhesives. Although it may look bulky, it's actually very light weight and easy to handle. Good luck with your quest to find a new adhesive!

I'm in mourning. I love that tape runner and had no idea it was going away. :(

I had the red ATG and gave it away. I didn't like it because 1) I print out my pictures on my canon printer, and it would NEVER stick to the back of the photo paper (no matter which photo paper I printed on) - and this was supposed to be permanent?! 2) it's really unwieldy and too large for me. Also, the scrapbooks that I used this adhesive on now have quite a few things falling off of it.
My go-to adhesive now is the red Duck adhesive. I love them. They do what they're supposed to do. They're $15 for a four pack at Joann's Fabrics, but use the 40% off coupon on it, so it turns out to be $2.25 apiece. I just did that today, in fact. Wish it was reloadable, but that's about the only bad thing about it.
Ali, if they'll still be carrying them elsewhere (Japan, I'm guessing?) have you thought about just getting a friend from that country ship you a box full every once in a while?
:) Rebecca

I LOVE my atg- it IS daunting, but I promise it's not bad at all. It's not even heavy. (And if you're like me, you'll be thankful that you no longer lose your adhesive on your desk.) I have the Red 714, the 1/4" one, and I find that it goes on like dots. You can easily control the length of the strip of adhesive you apply, and it rolls off with your finger if you don't like the placement. The ATG is seriously the best crafting purchase I've ever made.

I had the yellow gun, traded in for the red gun. It is still huge, only the tape is narrower. Hard to manuever. You should look into the glue glider pro. it looks like the ATG only 1/3 the size. The best part is that you can pop out the tape cartridge in the middle of a project and use a different one. Need re-positional tape? No prob, perm tape? Just change the cartridge (which is litterally just pulling it out nad pushing in a new one, not re-running the tape roll).

My hand is small and I use an ATG from Scotch, the yellow one, and the tape original Scotch. My father's Company sold Scotch for 20 years to photographers and for me is the best sistem and tape if you need to use a lot of adhesive. I tried Kokuyo but for me is too fragile, short and small.
The tape is a continous tape, not dots or tabs, it's like a film.
Best regards.
Maica.

My favorite is the red one in your picture. In my area, they only sell it at AC Moore. I also have used the Duck brand since receivinig it one year in a CKU bag AND Walmart carried it. But, no longer. I am anxious to hear your review of th ATG b/c I have been thinking about it.
