Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I use the Tombo glue for finicky things & a local couble sided tape made here in South Africa called Purple Turtle - comes in a big roll & you just cut to size. I have never had the luxury of using one of those tapes with the dispenser but if I were you I would buy up all you can & look into importing it (buying online) for yourself. I keep 6 months supply of tape for myself as I buy direct & it is so cool never running out anymore...

Meant to write "double" not couble! Forgot to say that it is because we don't get those dispenser thingies here but have also just thought that if you switch to plain old double-sided tape it is surely more environmentally friendly - or are those dispensers refillable?

I love my ATG red gun, which I got earlier this year. I too thought it would be big but I don't find it heavy at all, & it rolls nicely (my last roll got a little tougher towards the end of the roll). I'm on my last tape though! I thought about trying a cheaper off-brand but have decided that I'll stick with 3M's tape, since I trust it to be acid-free more than the other one. It's easy to lay down short sections of tape too.

Love the Tombo Mono. Think I go through that stuff like water. A few scrapbooking websites have had awesome sales on the adhesive refills, so when that rolls around, I stock up big time. :)

I am an ATG convert. I still use Koyuko for some things (or rather, did use...) but my ATG is wonderful. It is bulky but easy to use. NOT like tabs at all. It is more like tombow. But stickier. Doesn't dry out over time (ie chipboard letters don't suddenly start falling off your pages). And it works well on many surfaces like ribbon, textured Bazzill etc. Not so great for tiny things. That's what I love(d) about Koyuko. With the dots, you could roll over small shapes and leave excess adhesive on a piece of scrap paper.

I have been a Tombow MonoAdhesive junkie since back in my Stampin Up! card-making days. I stil mainly use it and glue stick, with a little bit of modge-podge thrown in for good measure!

I use the Tombow Mono, but I go through ALOT of it. I ahve a friend who gets it for a deal, so I can't really complain. I'm interested in hearing more about the other brands out there!

I am like you and sad to see the Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller no longer available! Recently, I have been liking the
MemoryStor®
Double-sided Adhesive
6-pack
$18.99 sold on the Costco website (with free shipping). You might want to check out this adhesive too.

I use the Herma tabs on flat paper and like the 3L EZ Runner for textured paper. I may have to give up the 3L though. It is disappointing that it is a throw-away product and I do not love that. I would prefer using something that has refills. I wish they would fix this. Haven't tried the ATG. It doesn't seem very portable.

I use the red ATG tape gun and love it! It is so much more economical, especially when you do a lot, like Christmas cards or large projects. I find that this tape is, most of the time, very forgiving and I can move things around if I make a mistake it also holds better than any other out there. If you get some on the outside of a project I just rub with my finger and it rolls right off. You would be silly not to try and like this product.

I use the red ATG - it's ok - but I prefer Adtch adhesive. Expensive, finicky but i like it.

just for my 2 bits, i LOVE my red ATG gun!! yes, it is a little bit big, but that fades after you start to use it. my 5 year old daughter can use it with ease...she loves it too! i have also use the tombo mono adhesive, and hands down prefer the ATG. one of main differences is that the ATG allows me a bit more freedom..it is a very permant and strong hold, but it doesn't "set" as fast as the mono--so if i need to move something i have a few more seconds to do so. i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. :)

The Tombo doesn't seem to work as well as I would like.
Glue-dots are pretty good, but are awkward as a roll or sheets, the dispensers help but seems to add to the cost.
So for most things its 3/8 Xyron runner, which is dot's and seems to hold fairly well. However not as much product in the refill cartridges as I'd like, but I watch for the 40% off at the store's and stock up.
Also love the Xyron Creative Station and the 505, again watch for sales on the cartridges.

I have the red ATG and love it. Once you start using it you will wonder why you were apprehensive about getting one. Just give it a try...

I love my ATG, and I use the red one. It's saved me sooo much money on adhesive. And the adhesive is great - it really keeps things stuck down.

I have the yellow ATG Gun, but I also have the adapter for the yellow one so that I can use 1/4" tape when I want to. It isn't too hard to switch between the two sizes and you get a lot of mileage for your $$$.

doesn't ATG make the small hand held size anymore? I got one for my wedding invitations and used to get the refills at Aaron Brothers....

Out of the four your will be trying out I have only used the Scotch ATG 700(gun (yellow). I learned to use it when I made my 150 wedding invitations almost 2 years ago. It took me a while to get used to the release button, but really liked the size of the roll when working on such a large project. After using the 3 rolls of adhesive I had initially purchased with the gun, I found it hard to find the Scotch brand refill. A local store sales a refill that is compatible (Scapa brand, Swiss made) and removable. As far as portability, yes it is big, but I’m fine with that because it is light and comfortable. Of course I am always open to new products and look forward to hearing your opinion on this and the other adhesives. Have fun!

I love the Tombow Mono, but switched to their new dots version after reading how much you liked the Kokuyo dots. Love, love, love the Tombo dots!

Wow! I am 237th response! I am sure you have your "anwwer" to the best adhesive by now. But I will still give you my 2 cents. The Tombow does not work. I use it mainly for little things when I am in a hurry. But I have found that it doesn't hold over time...cards that I made fell apart after a few months.
Right now my "go to" adhesive is Score Tape (made by the manufacturers of the Scor Pal). It holds everything from boxes to ribbon. Yet it is afforable enough to use for everything. It comes is a variety of widths. And it's thin enough to rip off the roll instead of cut.
