Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I absolutely love the ATG gun. The refills are very affordable if you buy in bulk online. I use a ton of adhesive and it has saved me so much money. I find that it adheres better than most adhesives I've used. I have the yellow gun with the conversion kit. I use the ATG gold thin adhesive. I bought the yellow gun in case I ever need to use a wider adhesive but for scrapbooking and cardmaking I use the thin. It looks bulky and it is a little awkward at first but I got use to it very quicky and it's wonderful.

Can't scrap without my yellow ATG! I thought it would be big and bulky, but it didn't take me any time at all to become a complete convert! Scotch sent me the adapter for 1/4" tape and I bought a whole case! I can scrap for days without having to refill! I bought my Mom one for Christmas. After seeing her shoebox full of Dotto and others that had broken or quit working for her, it was worth it! Now she's an ATG addict also!

Before the Kokuyo, I used the Tombow Mono. I liked it but found it would occasionally gum up a bit. ScrapbookPal.com sent out an email regarding the Kokuyo and stated that they found the Tombow Mono Dots Adhesive Dispenser to be the most comparable replacement item. They are offering a free one to try (click on Kokuyo under adhesives and then click on the dot-n-roller refill for the coupon code). I will be trying it out at a crop this weekend.

Hi Ali!
I just found my new favorite. The Glue Glider Pro. Super cute. Not as garganjuan as the scotch, but holds a lot of tape. And the actual adhesive makes me very happy.
Good luck in your search! ;-)

I also use the red ATG and absolutely love it! I was concerned it was going to be big and bulky and difficult to handle but it is a breeze. I also use it all the time my kid's school when I volunteer--it comes in handy on school bulletin boards, art projects, notebooks, etc...

Hey Ali!
Why are a little freaked out in Columbia, SC. I am trying out different things in my store right now but my teachers love AdTech...it is available at WalMart...not so good...but I am sure you can get it. I have it in the shop now and it is great and it is cheaper than dot-n-roller! WOOHOO! I will also share this little tdbit I learned today...Kokyou is still distributing dot-n-roller in Japan. It is in Japanese but heck...you know how to use it! :)

The 3L EZ Runner is crap. The adhesive just doesn't stick if you have ANY amount of humidity in your house. Any pages I did with it, have fallen apart.
I use the Ad-Tech - dirt cheap, sticks like the dickens.

Just a thought... what if we all flooded the company with emails - would they start selling it to us again? Does anyone know why they quit selling it?

OH YOU HAVE TO GET A RED ATG !!!! it is the best. It comes out like a strip - no dots. But you can do a long run of it or you can just use small sections. It really isn't bulky at all and so better for the environment to not have so much packaging like with those smaller runner that you ahve to keep buying. "Hello Ali - this is the ATG gun talking, please buy me - you will be glad you did"

I use the red ATG (1/4" wide continuous strip of highly tacky glue) for anything that needs to be permanent. The size has not been a problem and I LOVE IT! It takes forever to run out and refills are cheap. When I need repositionable I use the Scrapbook Adhesives DOTS runner (green case) by 3L. It's a good buy - no frustrating refills - and a portion of all sales go to the Make a Wish Foundation.

I just purchased the red ATG and I am still getting used to the larger size. It DOES stick well--and I like red! I like it better for layouts than cards (and I make a lot of cards!) I think it's just going to take time.

I will miss kokuyo too :(
I actually alternate the kokuyo with my 1/4" (red) ATG which is relatively easy to use. It doesn't come in dots but strips though. Whenever I feel I need a wider coverage, I simply swipe the gun 2x, which I think makes it more versatile than the yellow (1/2") version. For the past 2 years, I have had no problems with mine.

I figure the most expensive thing I buy to scrapbook is adhesive. I have been using the ATG red gun for about two years now. I save SOOOOOOO much money on the adhesive, it is not even funny. I can get a 36 YARD tape refill for about the same price as the Tombow Mono which is 28 FEET. You do the math and you can see how much money you can save! I resisted the ATG for a long time becuase I thought they were big and bulky but trust me you will quickly get used to it and wonder why you thought it would be a bummer to use. I recently bought an Anna Griffin bag to cart it around, along with my Making Memories paper trimmer which is big and my Crop-A-Dile and a few other tools. You do have to be ready to make a commitment for when you put something down though as it will rip your paper if you try to remove it later. But I can live with that. Sometimes it is good to just glue and go!

Annie B would love to know what type of adhesive your using with it because if I am quick I can get it up and reposition....but the key word is quick...LOL

I use the yellow ATG and have used it for a few years now. I love it. It's a very strong adhesive. It goes on more like dots. You can wipe away the excess very easily but it works great on mini books and things that get a lot of handling. I love it. You get use to the size. I'll never go back to anything else.

I have a red atg and love it, but it STICKS and you have to pretty much get it right the first time! It took a while to get past the size, but now I love it. I also have the Glider Pro, but find it very expensive compared to the ATG gun.

Thank you Jen...when ever anyone tries to speak ill of my ATG 714 (red one) my hackles get raised and I sit down once again and do the math for them.....I personally don't use the gold because I mainly make cards and they aren't going to be around for long so I save even more money.
Excellent job and thanks again.
