Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I was all for Tombow until I got a couple of bad rolls that broke or unwound from the rollers and it sometimes "skips" when applying. The Scotch brand is pretty good and I also like the Stampin' UP! snail adheasive. The Scrapbook EZ runner is o.k., but I do not like how you throw the whole thing away each time and I like the smooth application of the tape runners. I still have not given in on the ATG, but I am looking to it for an alternative for less waste and more economical reasons...but does it work well? That's the question!

No one has mentioned this yet, but I have come to love the Scotch brand tape runner. It sticks well, the roll doesn't break, and is relatively affordable. The refills are easy to change as well.

I was wondering what you would switch to, I know you have blogged about the Dot n' Roller before, I own a store and make my customers sad every day telling them it is no longer available:-( I am on my 9th adhesive, I am liking the Tombo Dot Roller the best- 49 feet, refills about $9 CDN, it's a little on the expensive side but it STICKS, and seems to work really well so far. But I am only on my first refill, so I want to try it a little more before I start really advertising it to customers:-)

i havn't scrapbooked in so long i forget what i use but i think it might be the dot n roller which makes me side i'll have to go check and see if i can find refills while they are available. anyway I use to use the Tombow monadheisve alot when i taught scrapbooking classes and it didn't seem to work that well, we had a lot of problems with it coming off the track and the adhesive getting built up on the edge.

I use the red ATG, although it is sexy black with all sorts of bling on it now. Lots of flowers and the word FABULOUS, to remind me each time I weild it's large handle...alas, none of this is what you asked. It is hard to reload; haven't yet mastered yet it w/out doing it twice. The adhesive is a straight line, smooth and strong. Size doesn't bother me at all anymore.

So glad you posted this. I was going to ask in our BPS class what adhesive you had switched to with the demise of Kokuyo. Like others, I went with it, because it was your favorite! Originally, I used tabs from Creative Memories, then switched to Tombow (dots are best!), then Kokuyo. Please decide before my 5 refills run out. :) hee hee

Yes, the ATG is big and bulky, (easy to find when your small space is cluttered). I too resisted for quite a while. EVERYONE at my local store was using one and I heard nothing but praise. I have adhesive issues, I'm just very picky. I finally caved and added it to my Christmas list a couple of years ago. I LOVE IT. I have the red one. It works well with so many things, including ribbon, a big plus for me.

I live in Australia, and I've been using the UHU dot roller for a couple of years now, and I actually prefer it to the Kokuyu. Despite saying it is permanent it is still quite repositionable/removable, and you can remove excess adhesive with an eraser. I've only ever seen the disposable, but would love to try the refillable.
The only real negative I've found is that if it is accidently used upside down (ie by my 3 year old), then the old tape can stick to the new tape - which is frustrating, but fixable.
Here's a link to the UHU glue image/pages (just scroll down a bit) http://www.gluewithuhu.com/?page_id=14.
Hope this helps

Bummer about the Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller. That was my favorite adhesive until I got the ATG. I use the red one. I like the red one since it uses 1/4" tape. The yellow one uses 1/2" tape, which is too thick for me.
I found an on-line source that has the best price for the ATG and tape refills. I like that they have the acid free adhesive since the original rolls aren't acid free.
I thought the ATG would be awkward to use, but it is great. I love it. It is an investment at the beginning, but the replacement rolls are cheap so, it is worth it in the end.
Good luck finding a new favorite!

I am looking forward to reading the results of your reviews on alternative adhesives. I am a Kokuyo user too and didn't know about this until you mentioned it.

I use the red ATG 714 gun and LOVE IT!!!
It sticks very well so you have to be sure before you glue down. I scrap in a closet size space and don't mind the size of it, it really is light and very accurate. I store mine in the top part of the MM carousel :)

got rid of my red atg (HATED it -- too big, the tape was constantly breaking & I had to repeatedly google the instructions to figure out how to rethread it... what a nightmare). got the glue glider pro. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. Love the high tack & the repositionable... Refills are always cheap at stampingscrapping.com (No affiliation, just a happy customer) Did I say how much i LOVE my ggp???

i just had to buy the atg gun and have to tell you, did NOT like it one bit. not at all.
i waited for the glue glider pro to arrive and i have not turned back. i luv that lil sucker. it has dots and straight line rolls and the BEST thing is, u just snap the cartridge in and out and u can change mid project.
i luv my pink one and just invested in a lime green one too-hey it is MY color. one MUST have lime green. give it a shot, you will not be disappointed, promise.

We're sad about the Kokuyo at the store too! We've been hearing that people are liking EZ Runner's repositionable one, the green one. I'm going to try it as soon as we can get it back in stock. I'm interested to hear which ones you like and see what everyone else here is saying.

I use the Glue Glider Pro. Once I tried it I fell in love, it fits my hand so nice and goes on so easily. I've used it for about a year and won't use anything else.

I stick with a very basic and it does for almost every job, no photo splits or tapes, jsut Tombow mono glue, you only need the tiniest ammount and it sticks forever, let it dry a little and you have re-positionable, not sure if its completely removeable but I re-do pages often and have no trouble removing remains of it with the glue eraser from Stampin Up.

Bonjour, I would not want to seem like I am preaching or anything, but just a though from my side: all these products with so much packaging are not really ecologic. I know they are practical and give better results that the old fashion glue stick, but I prefer to have a less than perfect page... If anyone knows about Earth friendly adhesive, please let me know.
