Dear Kokuyo Dot-N-Roller I Will Miss You So
Tags:
Yes, it's pretty silly and a tad melodramatic to be sad at the loss of my favorite adhesive.
But when you work with adhesive as much as I do, and you finally find one that is reliable and feels darn good in your hand, it's a big bummer to have it go away. Yep, in case you haven't heard yet Kokuyo will not be distributing the Dot N Roller in the US anymore.
I am starting to test out some other permanent brands including the Tombow Mono, the Therm-O-Web Memory Tape Runner (I like many of their other adhesives), and the 3L Easy Runner (which I don't like as much because I found that I like dots rather than tabs). I am still resisting that Scotch ATG mainly because it seems so big and bulky, but I might just have to try it after reading so many positive reviews both in comments here and elsewhere. If you use the ATG do you use the red one or the yellow one? Does it go on like dots or tabs?
So what are you testing out or using now?

I have been and will be using Tombow. Like it best, and am happy with the results.

I love my ATG, but I also use tombow.
After reading here and in jennifer McGuire's blog about Dot N Roller, I got one dispenser and only 1 refill. I really liked it, and now I'm using it like if it was gold!!!!!

Another vote for Herma.
Do you get it in the USA? I first discovered it in the UK, when I lived in Scotland (and stocked up quite a bit). In Australia, it's available here and wonderful! I have a pretty pink dispenser and it comes it dots - permanent and repositionable.

I use the Red ATg and love it! A role of adhesive lasts forever. I don't pack and travel to scrap so the size has never been a problem.

I usually use the 3L Easy Dots, but just bought the Glue Glider Pro (green, not sure of the difference between the pink & green, didn't have a choice, the green was all they had) but have not tried it out yet.

I think the 714 ATG gun is the BEST. I think everyone thinks it is bulky. I did also and resisted myself for a long time. I broke down and bought it for a 2 day crop, mini projects, and for it's super strong hold. After leaving it home for evening crops I found I missed it. Now I'm addicted, and totally love it.
For anyone on the fence, try it for a few projects. You'll end up with it in your arsenal for sure!

I'm curious as well to determine what adhesive to use. I took Stacy Julian's LOM class earlier this year and she posted a review of the ATG on her blog here: http://stacysbigpicture.typepad.com/altogether_too_happy/interviews/
And it looks like there's a site you can buy the ATG in painted colors. Not sue how price is (seems steep for an adhesive, but I'm staying open minded).

I have the yellow ATG but I only use the 1/4" tape (needs the adapter for the yellow gun) what i love about the tape is that you can just rub it off if it accidentally gets on a spot you don't want glue. the only thing i don't like about it is how big and bulky.

I use the Tombo because it's little and refills are reasonable and it's fast. I have A LOT of friends who use the big Scotch and I'm with you Ali...it looks too big to cart around and the thought of needing two hands to get it operational continues to keeps me with my tombo. With the flick of my index finger the adhesive guard comes down and I'm ready to go. Good luck on finding what works for you!

I use the Red ATG. I had to be talked into it because I, too, thought it would be bulky. I LOVE IT.

I use Duck Easy Stick by Henckel for most things. After your suggestion, I was enjoying the Koyuko Adhesive, too. Stacy Julian swears by the Glue Glider, especially for ribbon or border strips.

Oh, yeah, one more thing. I had consistent trouble with the Tombow Mono ribbon breaking halfway through the rolls. Has anyone else had this problem?

Tombo Mono gets my vote.
I also have an ATG gun, but I use it mostly for building books. You can't make a mistake with the ATG no peeling allowed:)

I love to read all the comments on adhesives for scrapbooking. I too have tried many and been disappointed with most. I am currently using the Tombow mono dots and am pretty satisfied with it so far.

That is such a "journalist" thing, but a good idea for heavy chipboard embells.

Sorry I forgot you asked about the ATG - I use the yellow you can use two different size replacement tapes. It goes on in a complete line. No dots No tabs. It took me a while to get the hang of releasing the trigger to stop the line. For a while I was working with globs.

I have always used the Herma Dot Adhesive roller and have loved it because it is light weight and repositionable. I am addicted to it's little dots, the way they roll across the paper, and so easy to rub off if you change your mind!

You can also get permanent refills if needed. I am sad I never knew of the Kokuyo to be able to compare the two though.
Love reading all the comments, so much good info! Thanks!

I have the red ATG and LOVE it! I was pleasantly surprised at how light and easy it was to use. And you can't beat it for the money. The refills last a long time and and not too expensive. And as someone else has mentioned, it's extremely difficult to lose it on your desk! lol
