Week In The Life : Tuesday

Hey there, how's it going?

Yesterday I took 128 photos (on Monday I took 92). Will I use them all? NO WAY. Many of them are repeats or different angles or blurry or trial images of the same subject. Next week, when I put the album together, I will go through each day and select the ones that best tell the story.

Any photos that don't make it into the album may be used to tell other stories in my regular scrapbooks. Maybe. And maybe not. One of the beautiful things about this project is that the photos themselves bring up other stories you may have been wanting to tell or you'll find things that are important to you that hold stories that you should tell.

I would love for you to share links to your favorite photo taken so far in the comments section. If you don't have a link you can just describe the shot and tell why you love it. There is magic in this process of capturing your everyday life.

I also wanted to re-post another of my favorite quotes about everyday life. This one's from Anna Quindlen:

..but the biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make while
doing this. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly
clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There
is one picture of the three on them sitting in the grass on a quilt in
the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages 6, 4, and 1. And I
wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how
they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I
had not been in a hurry to get on to the next things: dinner, bath,
book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the
getting it done a little less.

I hope you have a great day today and I hope you roll with this process. Maybe you will write more or less today or maybe you will take a 100 photos or just a few - whatever you collect is just right and will give a peek into your daily life in April 2010.

Enjoy your Wednesday.

Here's a look at some of my favorite photos from Tuesday:

My journaling today was handwritten on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. I jotted down times & activities throughout the day. I'll post it next week when I show how I put my album together. I'm thinking I might just slip it into a page protector as a new page for Tuesday...

Happily taking photos and keeping up. While I am low on the #, I have just what I want. Today is a sick day, something I have never documented. It should be interesting to capture it.

My favourite picture was the one of me cooking dinner. It's technically pretty bad and not very interesting to others but I love that I have a pic of myself cooking...takes up such a large part of my day and I never think to document it.

I am trying to blog my progress as well but I am keeping an open word doc on my computer to jot down all my thoughts. I am trying to express more of my feelings this time around.

This is the first time I've done Week in the Life, and the whole family is involved. My 6 year old daughter summed up every detail of her day on Monday while I typed it up. I'm embarrassed to admit that it was the first time I found out about some of the cool things she does at school! Thank you for having me slow down, ask the right questions, and really listen to the answers.

I'm a little behind with the downloading and journaling part of this, but I do have pictures and other "stuff" collected. Just need to sort through and post a link here at a later time...check back...it'll keep me honest!
Ali, I love how genuine you are and want you to know how much I appreciate all the tips and photos you are posting. Awesome inspiration!!! For the first time today, I put my camera on my dashboard and took a photo.

Ali, I am *so* enjoying this project! In 2008 I took the photos, but did not complete the album. I think I'm going to go back and use those photos and add the journaling that I remember... I still think it'll be so cool to look at. This year I'm keeping it simple... taking the photos, sorting and blogging some of the best to work through them. Keeping journaling each day by writing things down as I go. Next week I plan to put it all together. Thanks *so* much!

You always have beautiful flowers scattered around your home! I've had days with that many pics... takes longer to sort through and clean them out than it does to take them! Makes me nostalgic for the days of film... Don't get me wrong, far more benefits to digi, but in many ways easier. There were not hundreds of pictures to sort through!

I took lots of lots of pictures too.
One is at my midwife as I got acupuncture to make the birth of our first daughter easier. Will it help? I don't know yet.

And the second shot is to document the growth of my belly. Feels like it's exploding recently!!!

I like, that they are not perfectly in focus and best quality. Thats what makes it a snapshot that documents the magic of the moment in my eyes!!!
It is an amazing journey, and I am happy to feel triggered to document it more!!!
    Thanks!

The album set has ALL YOU NEED! I bought it first and downloaded it to see what else I would need to get and was pleasantly surprised to see it had everything! Cannot wait to use it - I am a big picture girl so want to see more of the week unfold before I plug in the days - but am so excited to know these templates are waiting for me at the end of the week! =) - pennyscraps

Whew! I thought I was crazy to have taken SO many photos in one day. I am having fun with the project, but realizing that there aren't as many things to capture EVERY day. Some things are repeats, and that's cool. I'm also putting emphasis on THINGS now. Like my son's cup, detangler for his curls, etc. I still need that photo of me sitting at my computer though!!!! :)

I am constantly being amazed at the power of me. The past couple of days have made me realize how not so insignificant the moments in my day are. I started out thinking my story would be oh, so boring but since documenting especially how I feel (and not what I try to do for everyone else) I found that I do have a voice and it is not boring! That put a smile on my face.

You are amazing Ali! These photos are genius because they show you, just your "really you"!! This week, I can't do the project this week, so I know I will do it next week (holidays) and the one after too!!!! One for holidays with kids and one for "work time".

haven't uploaded any of my photos yet ... planning to do that at the end of the week ... but my favorite photo from yesterday is a picture of my daughter (8mos) eagerly crawling towards my son (3yro) as he's playing with his trains, much to his dismay, of course.

What a beautiful idea Ali. I was so moved by your photos. I realize now that though I love to craft & I used to love taking photographs & journaling prolifically that I have laboured under the misconception that scrapbooking has to show a polished life (and I've felt ever since gaining weight that I don't fit that picture, so I stayed out of the camera & have never tried Scrapbooking my experience out.) Your everyday photographs--and that poignant quote--made me realize that my life is memory worthy. That's more powerful that I can say! Thank You!
