Making A Difference : Cocoa Daisy Internet Food Drive

Cocoa Daisy has put together something very, very cool for this holiday season. Here's the basic information from their website:

We’ve all heard the gloomy economic news this fall, the dizzying drop
in the markets, the increasing numbers of unemployed, falling home
values and hard hit retailers. We have all been affected in some way by
this crisis, but those hardest hit are those least able to afford it.
The demand for food assistant during these rough times has increased at
a staggering rate and food banks are being stretched to the breaking
point by the volume of need they are encountering.

Scrapbookers are women known for their generosity and for rallying
behind a cause. I want to help the international scrapbook community
join together during the holiday season to do what we can to help
alleviate hunger both here in the US and around the world. In light of
this goal, Cocoa Daisy is sponsoring an internet food drive. We are
asking scrapbookers to do their part to help their local food banks by
bringing in whatever they can spare. And we in turn, to help drive this
charitable giving, will hold a FABULOUS drawing full of amazing
prizes!!!

If you’d like to get involved, here’s what you need to do.

  • Gather up your donation and go to wherever you are donating it – a drop box at a school, a food bank, your church, etc.

  • Then, take a photo of you and your donation.

  • Upload it to the Cocoa Daisy Gallery and include a caption with your email and the number of items you donated.

  • For every 5 items you donate, your name will be entered into the drawing.

  • If you would rather not or are unable to physically bring food to a
shelter you can make donations through our store, in $5 increments, and
those donations will be distributed to food banks around the country.
For every $5 donated, your name will be entered into the drawing once.

  • On December 20th we will close the food drive and draw winners for all the super prizes from our very generous sponsors.

The Making a Difference Food Drive will run from Nov 20th-Dec 20th and my hope is that we’ll be able to donate several thousands of pounds of food for needy individuals this holiday season.

Here is a list of items most wanted by food banks:

canned meats (i.e., tuna, chicken, salmon)

canned and boxed meals (i.e., soup, chili, stew, macaroni and cheese)

peanut butter

canned or dried beans and peas (i.e., black, pinto, lentils)

pasta, rice, cereal

canned fruits

100 percent fruit juice (canned, plastic or boxed).

We hope you will join us in the fun and help make a difference in our world today!

If you have any questions or comments about our food drive or the drawing, please feel free to email us at mailbox@cocoadaisy.com

Super busy here yesterday. My Mom was here helping me move my office from our spare bedroom into the den to make room for the baby. She and Chris did all the heavy lifting and I directed traffic. It is amazing how much time it takes to get all the computer, scanner, printers, hard-drives, etc set back up (not to mention all the other supplies I have tucked into so many corners of my spare bedroom space). Definitely not done moving stuff by any means, but a great start. I am loving the new room and hope to have some photos soon.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I have tickets to see Twilight this morning and am hoping that it is not too packed.

Can't wait to hear your reaction to Twilight! I went to a midnight showing last night and am still buzzing about it!! I thought they did an amazing job and now can't wait for more!! Best of luck w/all of your re-organizing!
I LOVE what Cocoa Daisy is doing with the food drive incentive! We decided to donate our 'turkey' promotion card (turkey dinner w/all the fixings) to a close family friend who is a single Mom and certainly has her share of financial struggles. I'm even storing the turkey for her until she can use it because she spends Thanksgiving with us. It just feels so good to help others and know that you are making a difference in someone's day/life.

I volunteer at my local food bank and what most people don't know is that food banks can buy food at a DRASTICALLY reduced rate. For instance, at my food bank, they can buy $13 worth of food for every $1 donation.
Giving food items is great, giving money is even better. It saves time and trouble for the giver and for the receiver.

So important to help out with local food drives - can you even imagine what it would be like not to have food?? We take so many of these things for granted. Thanks for this post, Ali!
As for your studio - can't wait to see your new space - and your nursery. I'm sure I'll be in visual/creative/inspiration over-load when I see all your lovely things.
    Happy Friday!

We have been part of several food drives this year. I think it's great that the community is rallying to get the food banks stocked. Our hockey association recently had an event where admission to a game (a kids' game no less) was canned food; we gathered over 3,000 pounds of food! Kudos to Cocoa Daisy for joining in (and you, Ali, for helping to advertise it).

Saw Twilight last night...and well, I had to suspend the Maybe This Movie Is As Good As the Book belief...BUT...I did love it, still. I know they had to change some things. Just one Big One I wish they didn't touch (I am trying to be all No Spoiler Zone over here)...but the romance?? Awesome!!

Ali- I just saw the announcement on Stacy Julian's blog that you are going to be one of the experts on BPS this coming year. I'm so excited and I can't wait to take your class! Any insider hints on what's in store?
Good luck rearranging your home to make way for baby!

You must be getting excited to have your baby! I bet you had a lot of stuff to move with all your scrapbook supplies, etc. Hopefully you'll be able to find time to make cool stuff when the baby comes. It always takes me until the baby is about 8 months to be able to function and do anything creative.

Glad to hear about cocoa daisy's promo. Great idea.
Moving puters is a real time consumer no matter how many times I've done it. Something always seems to want to balk at the new set up!

Thanks so much for the reminder! We donated food during the holiday season a couple of years ago, but for some reason we stopped doing it. What a shame ... So this year we will start the tradition anew. I don't think I will follow the Cocoa Daisy "challenge" though. It's a great idea to get people started to support their local food bank, and I will make a TREMENDOUS difference, but it feels awkward to me to receive a prize in exchange. Just my personal feeling about the issue.
Don't forget to get some rest while setting up the new room ;-)

Congratulations Ali! I didn't know you were pregnant! I just started this bloggin' thing and I'm learning a lot! :)
I love your work! Your book 'Life Artist' is a fave! I'm sure you haven't heard that before! I feel like we have soooooo much in common! We have a seven year old son who is autistic too.
Thanks for all the inspiration you've brought to my scrapbooking and good luck with the renovation and little one on the way!
