Three Things : Lines (and a Designer Digitals giveaway)
Tags:One of the easiest ways I have found to add journaling to my projects is to incorporate products that include lines just waiting for words. They invite words.
[ Or I can always just pull out the pen + ruler and get those lines on there myself. Whatever is least complicated at the moment tends to be my choice. ]
Here's a look at some of my favorite products that showcase the simple beauty of lines:
Karen Russell Narratives Scalloped Lined Paper : Probably one of my all time favorite lined papers (next to the old Making Memories Ledger paper). I love that bit of scallop around the edge.
Technique Tuesday's Storyteller's Ledger Stamp : A great stamp for jotting down information and telling bits of a story on layouts, cards, minibooks, etc. Completely versatile.
Luxe Simple Lined Double-Sided Paper : Quickly becoming a favorite, this lined paper is a part of Luxe's Simply Luxe line (essentially lines + dots). Check out the grid, ledger, and pinstriped verisions as well.
Mug Memo Notebook from Fishs Eddy : This mug inspired the line theme this week. Such a happy mug. And watch out for lots of other cool things in this shop. Check out the other memo/line-inspired mugs and trays here.
In addition to Three Things today I am exicted to offer a giveaway of my first collection of layered templates and brushes from Designer Digitals. Leave a comment below with your favorite tip for getting words down on your projects (and not leaving them blank for a "someday-down-the-road-I-will-add-the-journaling"). A winner will be drawn at 5pm Pacific on Wednesday.
[ Three Things is a weekly product series : check out the archives here. ]

I keep a notebook with me to document things that are happening. And then when I go to scrap, I pull out my notebook and my pictures first.
It makes scrapping a bit easier for me.

I keep a journal. I write, write, write. When I go back to scrapbook something from the past, I can almost always look back in my journal at the same day or at least time period and find out what I was thinking/feeling/dreaming about. :) I do however love my clear journal stamps. They make it very easy to put a space for words right on my pages.

I really like to use tags and pockets for journalling. This way if I don't want to see all of the journal stuff I don't plus if I have lots to say which is the norm, I can use lots of tags in the pocket. It also helps to have paper with lines, can't write straight otherwise.

I've gotta print it! Otherwise I'll have major typos, forget a word, the spacing won't be right or I goof up and scratch something out. I know, it's not as personal but otherwise I tend to put the page away with a big blank journal spot!
As a side note, I'm so glad you're joining Designer Digitals! I love that place and the people!

Usually I will gather my pictures and find paper, emellishments, etc...and then put them in page lits (plastic sleeves. Then I go through them and if a page kits needs journaling because there is a special story or meaning that I need to include then I will go to my computer and type the journaling information. I try to use fonts that are different for each one and that coordinates with my paper choice. I print them onto basic cream or white cardstock and when I do the pages they are altered with ink, sanding, embellishments or just whatever looks good with the layout.
Thank you for this contest and the chance to win amazing stuff.

I like to hand journal a lot now... I tend to keep an online document that I print out *just in case* of stories, dates, thoughts. I also like to do my reflect back in my stories.

My go-to method is to type up the journaling, print, and paper punch - it's easy to center and quick.

I like to think about my journaling while I am putting the rest of the page together. I usually have the story in my head and instead of putting the page aside, I just pick up the pen and start writing. At least I try, doesn't always work but about 95% of the time it does.

I look at the photo, gather my thoughts and emotions and just start writing what I think I will want to remember about the moment years down the track when I or someone else is looking through the pages and stop writing when I run out of space.

Love love love that cup. So cute. I try and keep a lot of my journalling spots (love the one's from Ele's Studio on Etsy) and my journalling stamps together and where I can see them so it constantly reminds me to journal. I don't do just photos. I need the story to go with it.

i try to not call a layout complete till i journal it! =) That way, it always encourages me to pen down my thoughts straightaway.
Thanks for the constant reminder Ali!

I find that if I design my layout in my mind and think about it for 24 hours, I am 100% more likely to journal the story. I play it over in my mind and design a catchy title that relates to a phrase that I plan to journal. Then when it comes time to actually write, it flows off the page!! I tend to journal better on the computes but am trying to incorporate more of my handwriting (even though it is horrible!!) :)

I like to jot notes on a post-it and place it with my pictures, that way when I do make a layout I have words already to go.

I am telling bigger stories again so I love the size of the making memories spiral journal books and I also love all the different lined papers so I can cut a piece to size and either print or write my journaling on there and incorporate it into my layout

I find it easiest to just write it out on a journaling card or scrap paper as soon as i do the LO. Too many times i have thought that i will get back to it later, type it out 'neatly', but that often doesn't happen. So now write it out right away. So often the words were missing on my beautifully decorated, ornate pages and i would be explaining to people looking at the pages what was going on in the photo(s). How silly!!
So my new motto is 'more words, less fuss'!!

I make the journaling as fun to write as it is to read! Journal in unexpected places (ANYwhere on a layout) using unexpected materials (on a coaster, matchbook, ticketstub) in interesting ways (list the sounds of the day) to capture the memory... not try and recreate it.
