Thankful Thought | No.1

I love that when my parents come to visit my kids only want Grandma to put them to bed.

"Grandma do it." says Anna.

"Grandma!" calls Simon as he rounds the corner to go upstairs to his bedroom.

I'm so thankful for that relationship.

I'm starting a new occasional series called Thankful Thoughts and you're invited to join me.

Each time I post a Thankful Thought (a photo + a few words) I'll include a free numbered overlay download for you to add to your own photo. I'm also included a rounded-corner photo mask in this first download for those of you who'd like to have rounded-corners on your photo.

Download Thankful Thought | 001 here.

Also for this first download I put together a video tutorial on how to use the overlay and the rounded-corner photo mask.

I can see that I'm going to love this little series!
Thank you so much for sharing your ideas (and free downloads) :)
My grandparents lived in Korea so I didn't get to see them that often... so I make sure my kids get to see their grandparents as much as possible (even though they are 8 hours away). It is a special bond.

Looking forward to checking in often!

I use PSE but if you are on a PC try Cntrl G, making sure you are on the photo and the mask is on the layer below.

If that doesn't work, use the hover between the two layers and use the Alt(mac) or Opt(pc) button and click between the two layers when you see the two overlapping circles. hth!

In CS2 for the PC, the clipping layer command is Ctrl-Alt-g

      HTH

What a lovely gift to your readers and groupies. I"m definitely one of the latter. I had to laugh I was in a LSS this week and she mentioned something she attributed to you on the Ranger site (I haven't gone to look yet) but I said "She didn't do that on her blog, I never miss a beat!" You're my first stop every time I open my reader! Love the pic, the sentiment and the freebie. I sometimes get bogged down in the 'where to put it' aspect of something like these layouts. Can you share what you are going to ultimately do with these or are they simply going to be recorded in your blog? Thanks!

Hi Peg - I don't have plans other than just having these on my blog for now. They would make a nice little minibook too - but for now, I'm just doing it as a series here on my blog.

Ali, I love the fact that your kids love it when your parents visit and how they want them to read the stories. I am now on the other side - as a grandma - and my granddaughter now wants me to read the story and put her to bed. I cherish every single one of those moments that she's asking for me. Thanks for the overlay. Looking forward to more Thankful Thought posts.

Grandparents are great! My son is 15 and LOVES being around his grandparents, as sometimes I think that is their mission in life. To see Nick, and FEED HIM! His nana and papa love to watch him eat(an dplay baseball) for some reason. Maybe because I was such a picky child. He has ALWAYS been extremely close with them especially his papa! Every kid in my neighborhood calls them "nana and papa" too, and they love it. Especially his best friend, Lizzy. My dad says that she is is only grandaughter, since he only has grandsons.

We are so thankful to have such wonderful parents/grandparents and I know my son and nephews are too. Enjoy your time with them!

Adding my thanks for the clipping mask, overlay AND tutorial. I'm new to photoshop and digital scrapbooking, so really appreciate these tools.

Can I ask, on an overlay such as this one, can a person change the text or is it permanent?

Hi Barb - on this one (a PNG file) the text is set. You can erase the text with the eraser tool and then type in new text. If you'd like to see a tutorial on adding text to an overlay go here: http://aliedwards.com/2011/02/adding-text-to-overlays-long-journalers-in-elements-and-word-video-tutorials.html
